Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open a student
account? (Back to Top)
- Read the
Lightning JobSource Use Statement.
- Complete the online
Account Initializing Form.
-
Allow one business day for your account to
become active. Once
your account is created, you will receive an email that includes your username
and password along with a link that will take you directly to our
Lightning JobSource site.
What do I do with my account once
it is active?
Here is an outline of the things you
should do to make your profile the most effective.
- Visit the Career
Development Center website at www.mtsu.edu/~career, and click Log in to Lightning JobSource.
Your username is your student ID number (aka M #). The
password is the last four digits of your student ID number. (See
Raidernet for your ID number)
- Complete the questions in the Profile section. Be sure
to fill out each section carefully. Hold Control and click to
highlight more than one selection in a field.
- Upload your resume from a Word document (.doc) or Rich
Text Format (.rtf).
- Publish your resume in one or more of the MTSU resume
books. The Career Development Center staff will review your resume for proper
formatting. Contact the center if you would like a full resume
critique.
How do I maintain my account?
(Back
to Top)
-
Review and update your resume periodically--Log in
about once a month to be sure your resume is accurate.
Note: Although you can now
revise your resume within Lightning JobSource, resumes are converted
to .pdf format, so you will not be able to retrieve the resume in
a useful format. The Career Development Center suggests you make revisions to
your document, upload the new resume to your account and make it the
default resume that employers will view. Don't forget to republish your
resume in the appropriate Web Resume Book(s).
-
Review and update your profile periodically--Because
resume referrals are primarily based on your Career Preferences
selections, be sure to keep this portion as up to date as possible.
Also revise your contact and academic information as needed.
-
See who has viewed your resume--In order to view resume activity, click on "Your Resumes"
located under "Documents" at the top of the page. The number to the
far right of each resume you have uploaded tells you how many
employers have viewed that resume and whether one of our staff
members referred it or they found it in a Web Resume Book. By clicking on that number, you
may also see a list of these employers. This will allow you to
follow up with employers who have viewed your resume.
-
Please let us know when you accept employment--We
want to hear about your success! You can fill out the online
Survey of Graduates to let us know you have accepted a position,
or you can stop by the office (KUC 328) or give us a call at
898-2500.
How long will my account be
active?
An account will
generally be active from the time it is open until six months after
graduation. At this time, the Career Development Center will notify you that your
account is going to become inactive, and if you need further assistance,
please contact the office to reactivate your account.
How do I search and apply
for jobs?
Once you have logged in to Lightning
JobSource, scroll over Jobs & Internships at the top and click
Jobs/Internships Search. Here you can search by job/internship,
keywords, job function, and/or location. There are also several
one-click searches on the left side of the page, as well a shortcut to
any of your saved searches.
Where do I see which employers are going to be on campus?
(Back
to Top)
Once you have logged in to Lightning
JobSource, there is a Calendar heading on the left side of the page.
This includes links to a list of Interview Schedules, Career Fairs,
Employer Information Sessions, and Information Tables, as well as
Off-Campus Events. Just click the Home button in the top right corner at
any time to return to this list.
There is also a Calendar tab in the top
link bar, which allows you to search the Career Development Center calendar as well
as to manage your own schedule of events.
