Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open a student
account? (Back to Top)
- Visit
https://mtsu-csm.symplicity.com/students/ and click the Register
tab.
- You will receive a verification email. Click the
link to verify your email address.
-
Allow one business day for your account to
become active. Once
your account is created, you will receive an email that includes
your username and password along with a link that will take you
directly to the Lightning JobSource login page.
What do I do with my account once
it is active?
Here is an outline of the things you
should do to make your profile the most effective.
- Visit the Career
Development Center website at
www.mtsu.edu/~career, and click Log in to Lightning JobSource.
Your
username is your student ID number (aka M #). The password is
automatically generated and emailed to you when your account is set
up. Afterward, use the "forgot password" link to reset your
password, and then log in and change it as necessary.
- Complete the
questions in the Profile section. Be sure to fill out each section
carefully. Hold Control and click to highlight more than one
selection in a field.
- Upload your
resume from a Word document or PDF.
- Publish your
resume in one or more of the MTSU resume books. The Career
Development Center staff will review your resume for proper
formatting. Contact the center if you would like a full resume
critique.
How do I maintain my account?
(Back
to Top)
-
Simply log in--Sixty or more days of inactivity in
your profile will remove your resume from any Resume Books until the
next time you log in (to prevent inactive students from being
labeled as actively searching). Logging in to your account prevents
this from happening, and if you are actively searching for
employment, logging in frequently is a good practice to maintain
anyway.
-
Review and update your resume periodically--Log
in about once a month to be sure your resume is accurate.
Don't
forget to republish your resume in the appropriate Web Resume
Book(s).
-
Review and update your profile periodically--Because
resume referrals are primarily based on the Personal and Academic
information in your profile, be sure to keep this portion as up to date as possible.
-
Please let us know when you accept employment--We
want to hear about your success! You can fill out the online
Survey of Graduates to let us know you have accepted a position,
or you can stop by the office (KUC 328) or give us a call at
898-2500.
How long will my account be
active?
An account will
generally be active from the time it is open until six months after
graduation. At this time, the Career Development Center will notify you
that your account is going to become inactive, and if you need further
assistance, please contact the office to reactivate your account.
How do I search and apply
for jobs?
Once you have logged in to Lightning
JobSource, Click "job postings" in the top toolbar. Next click "MTSU Job
Postings" to see positions posted with the Career Center, or click "NACElink
Extended Job Search" to use the built-in job aggregator (not controlled
by MTSU Career Center). You can a basic search by keyword, position
type, job function, industry, etc., or you can perform an "Advanced
Search" for more search criteria.
Where do I see which employers are going to be on campus?
(Back
to Top)
Once you have logged in to Lightning
JobSource, there is a Calendar on the right side of the page.
On the calendar are Interview Schedules, Career Fairs,
Employer Information Sessions, and Information Tables, as well as
Off-Campus Events. There is also a "calendar" tab in the top toolbar,
which allows you to look at a day, week, month, and year view.
